AirRoad Installs Solar Power System at Derrimut Site to Increase Efficiencies
January 19 2012, Derrimut, VIC: AirRoad has successfully completed installation of a new 20.01 Kilowatt solar power system that utilises the latest German technology to deliver clean electricity to our new warehouse and office facility in Derrimut, Victoria. The system will help offset the electricity used in our office at the facility, and will also have a significant impact in reducing our carbon footprint and green house gas emissions.
It is estimated that the system will produce around 30,431 Kilowatt hours of electricity each year. This means that AirRoad will be able to save around $8,000 per year, based on an electricity purchasing rate of $ 0.25/ kWh X 30,431 kWh’s of saved electricity.
The solar power system will also help AirRoad reduce its carbon footprint, and CO2 greenhouse gas emission savings from AirRoad’s solar PV system are estimated to be around 43,820 kgs (43.82 tonnes) of CO2 per year.
AirRoad’s Managing Director, Malcolm Thorpe believes that installing the solar power system is a win-win situation for all. He says, “At AirRoad, we are always looking at new ways to increase operational efficiencies, while reducing any negative impact that we may have on the environment. It started with our custom trailers, and now we have installed a leading solar power system that not only saves us money on electricity, but also helps reduce our clients’ and our carbon footprint.”
The system features the following components:
• 87 x 230 watt poly-crystalline solar panels
• 2 x three-phase inverters
• 1 x Data communications device/web box
• 1 x Public Display Monitor
AirRoad is committed to reducing its carbon footprint, and this is one of the several initiatives that it has taken as part of its environmental policy. AirRoad conducted its first carbon audit back in 2008 and went on to win the Lloyd’s List Green Transport Award, the AFSMI Green Services Award (High Commendation) and the ASCL Environmental Excellence Award (High Commendation).
