‘Refugee Camp in Your City’ is an annual event organized by ‘Medecins Sans Frontieres’ (Doctors Without Borders). It is a recreation of a refugee camp and its facilities, which aims to create a better understanding of the vulnerability of life for displaced people and refugees that have fled their homes. The event was visited by more than 9,000 people last year. This year, the event will take place in Adelaide (September 20- September 27) and Melbourne (October 3- October 11).
Visiting this event will give you an opportunity to see a different reality, where people have been forced out of their homes. It offers them an opportunity to reflect on the fact that some of their neighbours may have arrived in Australia via exactly the same kind of journey. Organizers hope that the public will gain some empathy for such unfortunate people.
What most people are unaware of is that the event is a huge logistical project. This includes the transport of a five tonne kit that will be arriving in Sydney from France. This event kit includes all equipment and display materials that are required to make the camp as realistic as possible. It consists of tents such as those of the medical stations, the nutritional centre and vaccination clinic. The camp takes approximately six to eight hours to set up and dismantle.
AirRoad this year will be offering free trucking services to the event and is listed as a silver sponsor. We hope that we are able to make a positive contribution to society by spreading awareness and bringing hope and happiness to those that are in despair.
