20 years of Delivering Certainty
AirRoad was established in 1989 to capitalise on opportunities in the express transport industry. The vision was to provide a superior delivery service supported by cutting edge technology and security systems to the prestige market – larger corporate clients marketing premium products.
Tim Paine, opened the first AirRoad depot in Sydney in 1989. In 1994 an AirRoad depot was set up in Melbourne, followed by Brisbane in 1997 and Perth in 1999. The latest addition is AirRoad Adelaide which was established in 2005.
AirRoad was the first domestic transport carrier to introduce barcode scanning at an item level to track client’s freight in 1990. Each item carries a barcode address label which is scanned at all major transit points throughout the AirRoad network producing an audit trail of every item. Consignment tracking and proof of delivery imagery is available to clients on demand via the internet.
Since 1989, AirRoad has grown organically through a traditional sales approach focusing on acquiring a predominantly Fortune 500 client base. In 1994, AirRoad began providing its clients with specialised transport services. AirRoad Logistics was set up the next year thereby expanding the service offer to include warehousing and inventory control. In 2005, a new division, AirRoad Specialised was established to focus attention on to the expanding sensitive freight transport business. To add to its expertise, AirRoad Specialised also acquired two companies that dealt exclusively with the logistics of sensitive freight.
In 2003 AirRoad successfully ventured into the small business market. AirRoad Direct was created to specifically address the needs of infrequent users of express interstate and intrastate delivery services. Clients obtain pricing, make bookings using their credit card and track deliveries through a dedicated website.
Planning a better future for the next generation AirRoad is paving the way to become carbon neutral, from improved trailers and Hydrogen Fuel generator for better fuel efficiency to analysing the whole business to determine the carbon foot print.
